Public apologies have become everyday occurrences; from CEOs to celebrities to political figures, the old adage of “never apologize, never explain” has been forgotten in favour of “always apologize, always explain” . While this is great for discourse analysts, a lot of these so-called apologies are not good. Some are terrible, and some make things even worse. I’ll explain where these fauxpologies went wrong, and how you can spot them in the future (both in public discourse and your personal life).

There are some good public apologies out there, and I’ll let you know about those too and show you what makes them true apologies. The strategies from these good apologies can be applied to your daily life to help make your own apologies more meaningful.
